TAD Weekly Review: Week 44 2026

26 Oct – 1 Nov 2026 · Published:

Since 26 Oct, Latvia is the tenth EU country with Tesla Assisted Driving, after Tesla lowered the speed-limit tolerance and tightened driver monitoring. Tailwind came from Rome: transport minister Matteo Salvini backs a swift EU approval, though that is not a national recognition in Italy. And according to Norway’s road authority, Tesla has dropped its lateral-acceleration exemption. Whether the TCMV will actually vote in December is still open.

What moved this week

  1. LV

Latvia becomes the tenth EU country

Latvia’s road safety authority CSDD recognises the provisional RDW type approval for Tesla Assisted Driving. It based the decision on the RDW file and Tesla’s changes: a lower speed-limit tolerance, the manual offset resetting after every drive, and stricter driver monitoring. The driver remains fully responsible; CSDD warns that snow, dirt, salt and gravel roads can disrupt the system. Tesla Europe says the rollout “begins soon”.

  2. IT

Italy backs a swift EU approval

After a call with Elon Musk, Italy’s transport minister Matteo Salvini writes that Italy “supports a swift EU approval of Tesla Assisted Driving”. That is political tailwind for the TCMV vote (December at the earliest), not a national approval: Italy has not recognised the RDW approval. With about 13% of the EU population, Italy would be a key vote towards the required 65%.

  3. NO

Norway: Tesla drops its lateral-acceleration exemption

Norway’s Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) updated its TAD page on 29 October, the first update since July. It says Tesla has moved the system closer to UN Regulation 171: a new name, toned-down marketing and no more request for an exemption on maximum lateral acceleration in bends. It also tempers expectations: whether the TCMV will actually vote at its December meeting is still undecided, and the wording of the decision is not settled. Norway itself plans no earlier rollout.
